The Symbolism of Kano’s Many Masks
Written by: mudskipperkip I’ve discussed the symbolism behind Kano’s masks multiple times throughout my theories, but I feel now’s the time to make one unified theory about them. Let’s begin with the main mask we see in Yobanashi Deceive. [view picture] The mask, as we know, represents Kano’s true self. No matter how many new masks Kano makes for himself, no matter how hard Kano tries to throw away, get rid of, this mask, this self, it remains. The black and white design of the mask is quite symbolic. Black on the left, white on the right. Why? Look at Kano’s eyes upon having his mask split in two: [view picture] Red on the left, yellow on the right. His lying self, his snake, the pitch black part of himself, his inner monster, on the left. His true self, the pure white boy named Shuuya, who never did any wrong but yet has suffered this fate for the past ten years, on the right. Note how both halves of his mask aren’t purely white or purely black, both sides have little bits of each other. This is true for Kano and his snake as well, while both are so different from one another, they still have a bit of each other in themselves. I find the designs on the mask quite interesting as well. If you look at the shapes at the bottom of the mask, they remind me a lot of the scales on Azami’s cheeks, and later Mary’s as of Outer Science/Mary’s Fictional World. [view picture] These scales are the only black on the right side of the mask, Kano’s snake being the only thing standing in the way of... [CLICK HERE TO VIEW FULL ARTICLE] [source]

KAGEROU PROJECT HEADCANONS
By: geekydump -What if Kano is constantly deceiving Kido by hiding his blush and stutters whenever she comes around? -What if Haruka only eats so much because he is self-conscious about how skinny and frail he is from his illness? -What if Momo sat outside her brother’s door everyday for those two years just listening for a sound to make sure he was okay? -What if the real reason Mary is crying when Seto first finds her is because she has been through this route countless times and knows that the kind little boy who comforts her is just going to wind up dead again like everyone else? -What if Haruka’s sketchbook is filled with drawings of Takane? -What if in RPGs Takane always rejects all the love interests because there is only one person she wants? -What if the only reason Hiyori acted as if she liked Konoha was because she wanted Hibiya to get jealous? -What if when Mary climbs into Seto’s bed because of a nightmare they both lie quietly awake all night, wondering if they should turn around and kiss the other? -What if when Ayano told Takane to confess to Haruka before it was ‘too late’ she was thinking of herself and Shintarou? -What if Haruka loved Takane too but didn’t say anything because he didn’t want to hurt her when he inevitably died? -What if the day Shintarou wouldn’t let Ayano hold his hand was the day before she died? When he came to school the next day there was only a vase of flowers in her place… HUMAN KINDNESS IN SHINGEKI NO KYOJIN
Written by: thetox What does it mean to be good? Can human beings ever just be kind, or are we evil and selfish in nature? Shingeki no Kyojin makes me question this. Out of our three main characters, do we really have a kind, heroic character? Eren judges right and wrong at the drop of a hand. He thinks that killing those who are wrong - and judged thus by him - to be morally right. Anyone who stands in the way of the concept “freedom” is wrong to him, and must be crushed. Mikasa judges that there is good in this world, but it’s mostly just full of suffering, and she doesn’t mind adding to that pile if necessary. She will kill people to save those who are close to her, openly stating that those who are important to her are more valuable as human beings. Armin doesn’t believe in right and wrong, and will support the side which is most beneficial for him. He states this clearly when discussion Erwin’s actions with Jean. These are all self-centring ways of looking at the world. Egoistical ways of looking at morality. And what of the other characters? Krista, certainly has a most charitable personality. Yet her actions are brought into question, Ymir asking her why she is trying so hard to be kind. Is she just trying to mask that she isn’t? Is she just so concerned about what others think of her, that she forces herself to be good? It’s the argument about altruism. Is altruism real, or do we do selfless acts simply to feel good about ourselves? Do we give money to a charity simply to feel good about doing something which is seen as just? Doesn’t that negate the altruism, and make us egoistical, since we were after that thrill of “doing good”? There are two characters in this series who seem to be perfectly innocent in the eyes of black and white morality. Sasha and Connie, could both be judged as perfectly good. And yet these are the characters who are called the “stupid” ones. So is “human kindness” a concept to rely on? Are humans fundamentally good? Annie questions this. She says that the system is set up to make people self-serving first and foremost. Looking at this series, I whole-heartedly agree with her. Do I think that every character is wrong? Not at all. I don’t judge people or characters as good or bad. But this series leaves the impression that human beings are all self-serving, first and foremost, and that human kindness is only found in idiocy. |

SnK Animation
Written: amourfoudre sorry, but I feel that I need to talk about this bit of animation.
the snk fandom has kind of been workin’ my nerves about it for a while. A lot of the fandom doesn’t understand how animation works and what constitutes for good animation or bad a lot of the time. I’m an animation student, so seeing these kinds of posts generally annoy me. I understand that a non-animator would have less understanding of the situation, I’ll give them that. But I’ve seen countless people complain about how beautiful the fight sequences are but how “lazy” or “bad” the scenes of people talking or standing still are. Why do you think they’re like that? A show is it’s budget and nobody but animator or animation students seem to understand this. The reason the battle scenes look so good is because that’s where the budget went, that’s where the animators needed to put forth 120% of their effort. But back to the original reason for this post. This animation of Armin. I’ve seen lots of posts showing frames from this animation [view image 1] [view image 2] [view image 3] But they aren’t praising the animators in their post. People are going about being like “look at these amazing pictures of Armin” or “quality animation” Which would be nice, if the... [CLICK HERE TO VIEW FULL ARTICLE] [source]

Late Night Realization About Mikasa/Sasha
Written by: thetox Mikasa/Sasha is one of my favourite ships from the series, but I mainly just enjoyed it because it’s cute, and never gave it much thought. But then I had an urge to write some fanfiction, and as I was writing I realized that rather than a story, the plot was just turning into a spontaneous analysis of their relationship, and I suddenly understood my love for this ship fully. Naturally, I shall elaborate. Oh, and it’s late here, and I’m on my laptop, so you won’t get the manga screen shots I usually provide with this sort of post. My apologies. Mikasa is an aloof character who seems to only really care about her “family”, which has been reduced to Eren. But while her relationship to him is certainly strongest, she also has a tight friendship with Armin, and will support him and trust him fully. Other than those two though, we get the sense that she doesn’t really care for most people, and has been shown to threaten people left and right (from the rich dude, doing her job, to the military, protecting Eren). She doesn’t hold human life in high regard. Early on in the series we learn that her mantra is that “the world is cruel”, and she sees this reflected in... CLICK TO READ FULL ARTICLE [doriru]

On Mikasa's Origins
by: snk-theories We are told in the story that Mikasa is the last person with Oriental blood in the world. Her name is clearly Japanese. Her mother, in the brief time we knew her, told Mikasa that her family has skills that have been passed down for generations. The reason Mikasa is such an excellent fighter is that she is a Ninja descendent. Therefore, she is the last ninja in the world, and thus, she is the walking, talking incarnation of Conservation of Ninjutsu. [向山]

OUTER SCIENCE THEORY
Written by: kikithedeceiver Okay so, we have two routes? Right? Route 1 - might be the current plot and it seems more likely now because let me explain. Route XX - another name for Route BAD END Putting Outer Science aside first, let’s go back to Lost Time Memory, with the Route XX’s only shown characters: Shintaro and Ene. Remember that we only saw these two, and the date was August 15th and it is thought that this Shintaro killed Ene, stabbed his throat with the scissors and went into Kagerou Daze. Note that we see no one else, so therefore Shintaro must not have met the Mekakushi-Dan. It is supported that this Route XX is shown as Outer Science’s Route BAD END because of these two shots that is similar to the ones in LTM. Read full article: [x] |
